Many artists, intellectual property owners,
creatives and brands face the dilemma when operating in the social space, what
do you do about copyright? And who “owns” content in a user generated content
piece? Is the notion of copyright “old fashioned”?
The speakers for the event are:
- Professor Brian Fitzgerald - Professor of Intellectual Property and
Innovation, Queensland University of Technology. He will be representing
Creative Commons Australia (ccAustralia) is the Australian derivative project
of the international Creative Commons project. ccAustralia manage the
Australian versions of the Creative Commons licences and conduct research and
education activities designed to foster a creative and innovative community in
our region. Hosted at Queensland
University of Technology in Brisbane, CCau is devoted to the promotion of Creative Commons
in Australia.
- Stephen von Muenster –
principal, vonMuenster solicitors
& attorneys, advisor on copyright and content ownership issues to
advertising agencies and brand
- Additional speaker TBA
Who should attend?
- Artists, writers, musicians,
creatives
- Clients – marketing managers, product
managers
There will be short presentations, a
question and answer forum from the live audience and the Twitter stream.
We are expecting healthy debate around
these core issues:
- How do artists, creatives, and
bands get paid and keep ownership in an era of social and shared content?
- What is Creative commons? How is
it different to traditional copyright?
- How do content owners deal with
social mashups?
- What are frontier issues for
social media and copyright?
- Do we need a code of practice?
- How do you avoid getting sued
in another country?
- Do we need new models of copyright?
- Trademarks - in the era of
social media where do you draw the line?
- User generated content – what
do you do when users want to “play” with brand content?
- How do you police copyright?
And should social platforms/channels have to step in to assist?
- What revenue models can artists
develop in social spaces?
Our venue has changed for this event - back to Polo Lounge and Supper Club. We ask you for a $2 donation at the door to cover our AV costs for the evening. Doors open at 6.30 for a 7.15 pm start.
